Oops, for some reason I thought this was a 14 day challenge, but yay that I have one more day!

Day 15

Talk about why you participated in Snowflake &/or what you got out of it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have participated for...*checks*...5 years! I began in 2014, skipped 2016 for health reasons, and here I am.

Doing Snowflake seems to reground me in fandom, if that makes sense? It rekindles my love for my fandom, makes me think about why I'm here, and about the joy I get out of fandom. This such a huge part of my life that not everyone in my "real life"(I hesitate to call it that since why can't my online life be real? Grr) knows about, and Snowflake gives me a chance to celebrate it.

Plus, I generally get new friends out of Snowflake, which is fun.

And I love that it's always different, yet similar! I love the day where we do recs, and where people have to self rec since then it gives me things to read. *g*

Basically, as long as I remain enthusiastic about fandom, I'll prolly do Snowflake.

In sum:

alisanne: (Default)
LAST DAY OF SNOWFLAKE! Woe. No it's not, YAY!

Day 14

In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

People far wiser than I am have opined on this, so all I'll say is, while I do see HP fandom shrinking, those of us who are left are ~passionate. LOL.
And while I've tried to use other platforms for fandom interactions, I've never mastered them, so I'm resigned to sticking to AO3 and DW, which I have at least managed to sort of master. :P
In fact, [personal profile] torino10154 and I used to joke about being the last two people in fandom, and if one of us left, the other would turn out the lights. Let's just say, I have no plans to douse the lights yet. :)

So, in sum, I'm keeping the fandom light going as long as I can:

Day 13

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

These are all fannish goals.

1. I'd like to finish my currently unfinished drabble series' (Snape: Horcrux Hunter, Snarry Wisdom, H/D Aurors). And then maybe resist starting any new ones. :P

2. I'd like to continue writing poetry! That was fun last year. :)

3. This one is more amorphous. I'd like to be more content in what I manage for fandom. This is my hobby, my happy place, but I do tend to put pressure on myself when I don't manage to do everything I think I should, so...I'd like to relax a bit more about it all. :)
alisanne: (Default)

Day 12

In your own space, create your own challenge. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I've seen some stellar ideas all over my Flist (I specifically refer you to [personal profile] brumeier, [profile] malagan, and [personal profile] corvidology), so I'm going to keep mine simple.

I challenge everyone in fandom to do something related to that fandom that makes you happy!

If you like to rec, do it!
Podfic? YAY!
Art? OMG, there can never be too much art.
Write limericks? Absolutely!
Cosplay? Yas! Work it!
Write me Snarry? Please! *g*

Whatever "it" is, do it, and wallow in the joy it gives you. ♥
Let's claim this as our happy place, yeah?
alisanne: (Default)

Day 11

In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So I totally stole this from [personal profile] brumeier, but it's pretty much how fic happens for me. The Creative Process )
alisanne: (Default)

Day 10

Create a fanwork. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I finally managed to finish my [community profile] adventdrabbles series! Thanks, Snowflake. <3

Day 9

Commit an Act of Kindness. In your own space, share what you’ve done, talk about what you’ve done, or simply leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I've been wracking my brain about how to fulfill this one all day.
The best I could come up with is:

1. I left several comments for friends' creations today.

2. I checked in with my beta reader, who recently had surgery and is still recovering. ♥

3. I am pimping this fest at the behest of a couple of Flisters. *g*

alisanne: (Default)

Day 8
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This was a tough post to compile (it was hard choosing!), but at least it spurred me on to compile my yearly wrap up list (which should be up tomorrow).

  • How to Give Socks and Influence Elves (and Pretty Professors) (LJ/IJ/DW) [Fic (8680), PG, Severus/Hermione]

Written for last year's [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas, this one was a great deal of fun to write. Negotiating a relationship between Severus and Hermione is always enjoyable (banter! flirting!), and adding in house-elf politics and meddling colleagues made it extra smile-inducing, at least for me. :)

  • Job Negotiation (LJ/IJ/DW/AO3) [Fic (2570), NC-17, Dolores/Nagini]

Back when I was still writing regularly for Daily_Deviant (something I hope to get back to soon), I liked to challenge myself by at least attempting the alternate pairing. This was one of my more successful tries, I think. IMO, I managed a plausible explanation for the pairing, and even though Dolores is not my fave character, getting into her head was certainly an ~interesting experience.

  • Fits Like a Glove (LJ/IJ/DW/AO3) [Fic 2050, NC-17, Neville/Percy]

Another Daily Deviant submission, this was prolly the kinkiest thing I wrote all year. Dom!Neville and Percy, with UST you can cut with a knife. Yeah, I enjoyed coming up with this one. *g*

And, because I can't resist one more:
  • The Cure for Weasleys in the Manor (LJ/IJ/DW) [Fic (1100), R, Severus/Lucius]

I wrote this for May Madness and it made me chuckle with unholy glee as I was writing it. Slytherins, man. You have to love us. ;)
alisanne: (Default)

Day 7

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you. (The recs from Day 2 might be a good place to start.) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

New to me? *snorts* These days I'm barely playing with the stuff that's old to me sigh.

Still, I managed something. *g*

Title: Stepping Up
Author: [personal profile] alisanne
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Harry Potter/?.
Challenge: Written for [community profile] harry100/[insanejournal.com profile] harry100/[livejournal.com profile] harry100's prompt # 354: One Step Forward, and as my answer to [community profile] snowflake_challenge's challenge # 7.
Rating: R
Length: 100
Warnings: Het? LOL.
Beta(s): [personal profile] torino10154.
Disclaimer: The characters contained herein are not mine. No money is being made from this fiction, which is presented for entertainment purposes only.

Read Stepping Up on LJ/IJ/DW.

I made the pairing a surprise because, well, I have to get my kicks somehow. ;)
It's a new one for me, though.
alisanne: (Default)

Day 6

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

Let's see.

1) Like everyone, I'd love art of any of my fics.
2) I would also love a new HP themed journal layout that could work on all three platforms.
3) For people to participate in any or all of the drabble communities I mentioned in yesterday's post. <3
alisanne: (Default)

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Because of my OTP love, my first rec is for the home of all things Snarry: [community profile] snape_potter. They exist for people to post stories and art, of course, but people also can post meta, questions, searches... Plus, they host two of my favorite fests, the Snarry-A-Thon which posts around Easter, and the Snarry Swap, which just finished posting. And they're incredibly organized! They have the entire year planned out ahead of time, whereas I can't even plan what's for breakfast tomorrow. :P

If your taste runs to kink, then I present: [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant.
The site had been in a bit of a slump for a while, but seems to be reviving with the addition of new members. Anyway, I'm pretty sure you can find just about any ~unusual kink there, just search the tags. Disclaimer: yes, I'm a member, so this could be seen as a tad self-promotional. *shrugs*

Finally, I present one of my very favorite fests of the year, bar none: [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas. This fest is chock full of rarepair and characters studies, and I don't know how the mod manages it, but the creations are always stellar. I always rec a ton of art and fic from it and often times have trouble not just reccing the whole thing and calling it good.

And, as a bonus (and because I always do this, so why quit now?), I'd like to pimp the drabble communities, i.e. [community profile] snarry100, [community profile] snape100, [community profile] neville100, [community profile] hp_nextgen100, [community profile] harry100, [community profile] dracoharry100, [community profile] mixandmatch100, [community profile] femslash100, just to name a few. I think drabbling is an underrated writing activity. IMO, it helps you hone people's writing skills. Give it a try!
alisanne: (Default)

Day 4

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

I tend to be on the extroverted side of things, so this one isn't usually a problem, except this year I was wandering through the Snowflake peeps feeling isolated.
And then I encountered a friendly invitation to say hello, which I followed. :)
So thank you, friendly person. ♥

I, in turn, extend an invitation for anyone to comment here (even with a smiley face or random wave) if they need a way to fulfill their challenge. :)
Come one, come all. *g*
alisanne: (Default)

Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Last year I mentioned how much I adore sassy!Harry, so this year let's discuss the formation of the Golden Trio.

Trio Feels )

Day 2

Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Ahh, recs day.
While I wish I could rec entirely from current fests, alas, I have not been keeping up with them as I should. :(
Still, I can do at least one rec from a current fest, so that's something, right? *g*

Have some recs, old and new:

1. The Continuing Adventures of Severus Snape, Barista Extraordinaire by [archiveofourown.org profile] mywitch/[livejournal.com profile] mywitch and [archiveofourown.org profile] toodleoo/[livejournal.com profile] toodleloo. This fantastic Snermione comic has to be seen to be believed. The story is fun and sexy and the art is spectacular. And it even has my het OTP of Harry/Luna. *g* MyWitch is brilliant at the little details, and Toodleloo is a master drabbler. Go check it out, you won't regret it.

2. Haeligeweille by Anonymous. This is part of [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas, an always fabulous fest, chock full of rarepairs. This is the ultimate one, really - Filch/Mrs Norris. And no, it's not bestiality. It's a clever, witty, brilliantly conceived gem of a tale that is now my new head canon for these characters. It tells the story of how Mr Filch ended up where he is, and how one should never assume you know someone's story. Seriously fantastic writing.

3. Going Green by [archiveofourown.org profile] emynn. Even though she's since moved on to other fandoms, Emy made a mark in HP. I adore her style and this story personifies it perfectly. It's sweet, funny, alternately gut-punchy and exhilarating. Turns out, jealousy in the wizarding world can manifest in actually turning green, and when Harry realizes Severus has a suitor -- well, you can guess what happens. This story is an old favorite and is well worth revisiting. *g*
alisanne: (Default)
Happy New Year, all!

Along with everyone else I vow to post more regularly and since I have joined [community profile] getyourwordsout once more, I am even going to try to make my goal this year. :)

But this post is for Snowflake, so without further ado:

Day 1

In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Let's see. Many things give me joy and keep me sane, chief amongst them being you guys, my Flist! ♥

DW is definitely a happy place for me, followed by Pinterest, and Tumblr. :)
I suppose I do have to mention Seekers Notes, too, since playing it does keep me smiling.

Outside of cyberspace, I'd say my bed is my happy place with its cool, soft sheets and big, fluffy pillows into which I can snuggle... *happy sigh*

Also, when I sing with my choir. There's something about singing in a group that heals my soul. :)

Day 15

In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, or to your flist/circle/followers. Share your love and squee as loud as you want to. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Dear Fandom,

I'm not sure I can think of a new way to express my love.
You are a huge part of my life and, well, I'd be a completely different person without you, so, instead of words, have some pictures that express how I feel.

How do I love thee? )

Day 14

In your own space, create your own challenge. Whatever your challenge is, and have fun with it! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have seen a ton of fabulous responses to this!
I'm going to go with a personal challenge to myself this time.
I suck at doing this thing, so feel free to ignore if/when I actually attempt it )

Day 13:
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So. Resolutions.
Back to the basics this year, I think.

2018 goals )

That's all I can think of at the moment. I may add more things as they occur to me. :)

Day 12

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a podfic, an icon, a sketch, a meta, or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Cross stitch. Draft an essay about a particular medium. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of book you love, a ship manifesto, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Create something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So I've never written a ship manifesto, which made me wonder how the Snarry ship manifesto would read, which gave me an idea for today's [community profile] hogwarts365/[livejournal.com profile] hogwarts365 ficlet. So thanks, Snowflake! <3

Title: Relationship Manifesto
Author: [personal profile] alisanne
Rating: PG
Pairing: Severus Snape/Harry Potter.
Word Count: 365
Warnings: None. Dialogue only.
A/N: Written for [community profile] hogwarts365's prompt # 225: “Have 10 friends who believe in your dreams than 100 friends who never do. It's not about numbers; it's about purpose.”― Israelmore Ayivor, Let's Go to the Next Level, Life Lessons, Rise to the challenge.

Day 11

Share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I bet you think obvious answer is obvious, hm?
Of course Harry Potter changed my life, but instead of going down that road, I'm going to talk about a really terrible series.
