So [livejournal.com profile] hp_goldenage's Salt and Pepper Fest just finished posted yesterday and I have a couple more recs if you're interested. Both fics this time.

  • Into Oblivion by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] llaeyro, Severus/Sirius, NC-17 (mind the warnings)

I know, I know. What the hell is a fluff-lover like me doing reccing character death fic? Well, when it's as nuanced and sensitively written as this story it, it deserves to be recognized. This is what happens at the end of life, and Severus' heartbreaking honesty is beautifully moving here. My heart ached for both of them, for all they went through, but even in the misery, their love for each other shone through. Gorgeous writing!

  • Still Sounds Like a Song by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] writcraft, Harry/Draco, R.

Love this Draco. He's just so deliciously snarky. And Harry is beautifully drawn as well. They are both so in love and finally ready to admit it and act on it and accept each other.
This has beautiful, lyrical writing, with some heartbreak in it, but with a sweet, sexy finish that left me smiling.

YMMV, but I think they have something for everyone there. Do go check it out and leave some love, yes?
alisanne: (Default)
So I totally spaced! I meant to do this before but, alas, here I am at the last minute collating [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant recs.
What follows are the fics I haven't before recced that I always return to when I need a good, delicious, DD read.

Recs ahoy! )
And that's all I have time for at the moment.
Seriously though, there's something at [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant for everyone, so if these don't do it for you, go trawl through the tags there. I guarantee you'll find something yummy. <3
alisanne: (Default)
For those who may be unaware, [livejournal.com profile] hp_goldenage is currently posting their Salt and Pepper Fest. There have been some lovely offerings, so you should go check it out. Below are the offerings I especially enjoyed. :)

Fic:

  • Love and Other Forms of Chaos, by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] lumosed_quill, Hermione/Millicent, Harry/Draco (ish), NC-17

This is a beautifully written story in which Hermione comes to know herself better, and in which she starts to embrace chaos a bit more. I loved the OCs, like Rose, who was a delight, and Harry, who inadvertently helps Hermione discern her own mind. But Millicent steals the show. She is sharp, clever, perceptive, unapologetic, and just fabulous. I don't blame Hermione one bit for falling for her. Go read and you'll see what I mean.

  • Until Death Comes, by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] hiddenhibernian, George, Fred, PG-13

Clever, clever plot in which George makes a deal he probably shouldn't have with someone he definitely shouldn't have, but desperate times, right? Only life is short, and he has to pay up far too soon. The somewhat ambiguous ending is actually perfect for this story. And I loved the reappearance of the fierce wartime Golden Trio. They are lovely.

Art:

  • Passing the Trowel, by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] shadowycat, Pomona, Neville, G.

Beautiful scene where Pomona and Neville are working together in the greenhouse. Love the light in this piece and the plants and the beautifully detailed clothes (Neville's robes and tie), as well as their hair and the wrinkles on their faces. Clearly they both laugh and smile a lot. Oh! And there's a very playful vine, too. All in all, a delight!

Go forth, read/view, and comment! Comments are love. ♥

Yay, rec!

alisanne: (Default)
Do I have a rec for you guys!
It's from [livejournal.com profile] severus_fest and it's a tad long, but it's worth every minute you spend on it.
The Beating of This Fragile Heart is a slow build, luscious Snarry in which Harry is gorgeously persistent and determined, Severus is his usual irascible self, and they come to find that they can't live apart. Severus won't let Harry tell anyone about the relationship. Until something tragic happens and Severus ends up letting the cat out of the bag. Their evolving relationship is beautifully handled, as are the reactions of Harry's friends. The ending is lovely and satisfying, and the sex is spectacular! *g*
Go now and read.

Artage!

You guys!
So the wonderfully talented [livejournal.com profile] mywitch did art for one of my fics: Come Along With Me (LJ/IJ/DW).
She even kinda put me in there as the barista, and she got it very right since this is pretty much how I'd be if I ever encountered Snarry IRL. *g*
Go and check it out now! And be sure to leave some love.
Sketch for Come Along With Me.
alisanne: (Default)
I seem to be on a bit of a reccing streak these days. :)
Anyway, the following are from the recently concluded [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus and from [livejournal.com profile] severus_fest, which is currently posting.

Fic:

  • How The Matchmake Met Her Match by [livejournal.com profile] katmarajade, George/Lavender, (NC-17)
This is the absolutely hilarious story of Lavender the matchmaker and her unwitting client George. Lavender has his number at every turn, until he tries to turn the tables on her and they both end up with more than they bargained for. Lovely, sexy read.

Art:

  • Morning Glory by [livejournal.com profile] glitter_pink, Neville/Lavender, (R)
Beautiful, beautiful art depicting Neville leaning over a very lucky Lavender. This captures a gorgeously intimate moment between them.

  • Master Brewer by Anonymous [personal profile] shadowycat, Severus, (G)
A lovely study of the master brewer at work. Check out his luscious robes and the intriguing potion he's decanting. Great piece.

  • Hitting the Mark by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] cabepfir, Severus, Eileen, (G)
This watercolor depicts an intense moment between Severus and his mother, the revelation that he's a Death Eater. Eileen is not pleased, the expression on her face makes that clear, but Severus is defiant. This is beautifully depicted by their tense posture and facial expressions. I love the clear resemblance between them, the color scheme is prefect, and I can just see this scene unfolding. Gorgeous work.

alisanne: (Default)
I believe I am now caught up on holiday fests, whee!
And since just about everything is about to have reveals, I thought I'd do one more recs posts while things are still anonymous. :)
These recs are from [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas and [livejournal.com profile] hd_owlpost, two fests I was relatively unfamiliar with until this year.
All of these recs are fics.

  • Bored of Governors by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] cranky__crocus, Minerva McGonagall, assorted others, PG-13
This is gen fic of the best sort. There's politics, plotting, and a great cause. Everyone is beautifully characterized, and there's even a happy ending. A delightful read.

  • And a Malfoy in a Pear Tree by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] lauren3210, Harry/Draco, (Nc-17)
Adorable story featuring smitten!Harry and suave and smitten!Draco who is his local barista who sometimes slips things into Harry's coffee. Like notes. And ~other things. *g* The supporting cast is perfect, the story sweet and sexy. Go and enjoy.

  • All Roads Lead Home by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] dracogotgame, Harry/Draco, (G)
Beautifully crafted story about redemption and pain and love post war. Draco is drafted into spending Christmas with the Weasleys by the most unlikely of people. This is the fabulous story of what happens.

  • Four Weddings and a Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] darkravenwrote, Harry/Draco, (soft M)
This delightful story shows the progression of Harry and Draco's relationship through several weddings and is hilarious. The details are spot on and Draco is wonderfully calm and collected even as Harry is losing his mind. *giggles* A lot of fun.

  • Dapper by Anonymous [personal profile] writcraft, Harry/Draco, (NC-17)
A hilariously antagonistic fic with Harry hating Draco for everything from his pointiness to his gorgeous dress sense. And yet there's something about him... This features a suave and sexy toppy Draco and a Harry who just may not hate Draco as much as he thinks. Oh, and the banter during sex? Perfection.

And that's it. Go out, read and enjoy, and if you encounter something you like, do leave some love. It makes the (fandom) world go round. *g*
alisanne: (Default)
So now that Secret Snarry Swap is over, I've expanded my reading to include a fest I wasn't that familiar with: [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas. What you see here are things I especially enjoyed from it, [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised, and [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest this week.
I'm still working my way through [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas, so more recs may be forthcoming. And I've another fest on my radar now that the holiday season is over. *eyes [livejournal.com profile] hd_owlpost*
Anyway, as always I urge you to go out, read, and rec. And of course, if you find something you enjoy, make sure to leave some love.

Fics:

  • Incongruent by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] agentmoppet, Harry/Draco, [NC-17]
An Eighth Year fic in which Umbridge is her usual evil self, Harry has to be shown the error of his assumptions, and Draco is and isn't himself. Everyone felt very much like their canon selves, almost scarily so at times and yet people seem to have learned from their mistakes (all except Umbridge, she never learns). A lovely story.

  • The Gift by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] lash_larue, Minerva McGonagall/Sybil Trelawney, (PG)
A beautifully bittersweet story about the real reason Sybil acts as she does and how Minerva (and all her colleagues) come to see her for her true self and try to help her through her suffering. And the last line is fabulous. *g*

Art:

  • I want to be the first thing you touch in the morning by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] primea, Harry/Draco, [PG-13]
A gorgeous piece of art featuring the play of light off Draco's naked back and Harry's face. This is worth it for Draco's back alone. :)

  • New Year's Kiss by Anonymous [personal profile] 8c, Pansy/Ginny, [G] (I'd say it's PG to be safe)
Gorgeously romantic kiss in the snow. The curve of Pansy's arm as she pulls Ginny closer is a thing of beauty. Lovely work.

alisanne: (Default)
*waves*
I'm back with more recs from [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised, [community profile] snape_potter's Secret Snarry Swap, and [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest.
Swap is now complete, so do go and check out the Snarry if so inclined.
Also, as always, what follows are what I found especially enchanting. YMMV, so if you see something you like better, rec it!

Fic:

  • Intimate Intimidation by Anonymous [personal profile] suitesamba, Severus/Harry, [NC-17]
This hilarious story features a somewhat confused Harry who habitually embarrasses himself at the office Christmas party, and explains how his attempts to not do so again this year fail spectacularly. Fortunately, he doesn't care because sex god!Snape successfully distracts him (and us). *g* Go, read, and enjoy.

  • Picture Perfect by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] fulselden, Harry/Draco, [NC-17]
An engaging mystery with well done OCs and a twist that I did not see coming. Filled with inventive magic, beautiful descriptions, and fabulous banter, the resolution of the mystery will leave you with your mouth hanging open, gripping the edge of your seat. And the resolution was brilliant. If you like lots of plot, some twists and turns, and some sweet sexy times, this one's for you.

  • Before You Leave by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] gryffindorj, Severus/Harry, [NC-17]
Beautifully written, this story is atmospheric and sexy. The descriptions are perfect, it's sets the mood superbly and ends on a sweet, hopeful note.

  • All the Important Words Unspoken by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] blamebramptom, Harry/Draco, PG
Set in 1899, this masterpiece is brilliantly written in the style of the time. Astoria and the OCs completely steal the show, although Draco and Harry are pretty wonderful, too. The plot is engaging, the nods to the era are clearly well-researched. A lovely, engrossing tale.

  • The Boy Who Believed in Magic by Anonymous [personal profile] writcraft, Severus/Harry, [NC-17]
A gloriously sweet and sexy story in which Harry attends an anniversary celebration for Arthur and Molly and ends up having his own celebration with another attendee, the utterly sexy and enchanting Severus Snape. I certainly don't blame him. *g*

Art:

  • Late by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] citrus_lime, Harry/Draco, [R]
Gorgeous glowing piece of art depicting sleepy morning sex. The light in this one is beautifully handled as are the boys, whose intertwined bodies need to be seen to be believed. Guh.

  • A Snapely Christmas by Anonymous [personal profile] shadowycat, Severus Snape, [R]
Now this is a gift to us all, and although I think I know who I'd have unwrap it, I imagine we all have different ideas. *g* Check this out for the luscious hipbones alone.

  • Snowy Snogfest by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] mybutterflower, Harry/Draco, [PG]
If you like have-to-have-you-now kisses in the snow, this is the piece for you. And don't miss the lovely details that round out this art.

alisanne: (Default)
Hey, y'all, I come bearing more recs! *g*
Although I admit I am slightly behind in my reading (*eyes [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised* 130K? Really?), I am for the most part caught up, which I am considering to be an achievement during Fest Season. :P
These come from [community profile] snape_potter's Secret Snarry Swap, [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest and the aforementioned Erised.
I had hoped to expand my reading to include other fests that I know are running right now, but there's only so much a girl can read in a day. Maybe after the hols? (Yes, I know I say this every year).
Anyway, here's what I enjoyed this week. And, as always, do check out the rest of the offerings and if you spot anything you like while browsing, leave some love. You'll make someone's day. <3

Fic:

  • Of Scars and Christmastime by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] avioleta, Severus/Harry, [NC-17]
It's been years and Harry's scar hasn't bothered him, until now. Of course he goes to Severus for help and things take off from there. This lovely, gentle story features an unsure but very interested Severus, a lovely adult Harry, and some fascinating magical theory. Give it a try.

  • Dear Uncle Plume by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes, Harry/Draco, [NC-17]
This grabbed me from the first fabulously written paragraph and didn't disappoint.
Draco has attitude and snippiness, which doesn't matter to the supporting cast, who are well written and perfect for him, down to his attitudinal house-elf. Draco's job is also perfect for him, allowing him to be snarky at will. Pansy is great, as are Narcissa and Andromeda. As for Harry...*bites fist* He's damn sexy, and their relationship is steaming hot. The ending was lovely and hopeful. I seriously could have read another 16K of this.

  • I Bet You Look That Good On The Dancefloor by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore, Harry/Draco, [NC-17]
Sexy, SEXY story featuring Harry and Draco meeting in a club and what ensues. Hm, and when I put it like that it sounds like every other club!fic out there but trust me, it's not. The writing is sharp, the characterizations superb, Draco is a shit and sexy as hell, Harry is angry and passionate and a virgin and it's great. This is nothing like the usual club!fic (and I can say that since I've written several, LOL). Go now.

Art:

  • Just Your Average Saturday by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] dustmouth, Harry/Draco, [PG]
A comic featuring a relaxed Saturday at home with Harry, Draco, and several others who clearly spend a lot of time at the Malfoy-Potter home. Pansy and Rose steal the show here, and the whole thing is worth viewing just to see the final hilarious panel. Brilliant work.

  • Volatile Elements by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] shiftylinguini, HarryDraco, [PG-13]
If you like your art to be utterly hilarious and maybe a bit surreal, go check this out immediately. Harry and Draco are alchemists, and this comic outlines what happens with one of their more volatile experiments. After all, when elemental chickens are involved, how can you not investigate? *giggles*
Seriously, just go look at this comic.

  • Chill in the Air by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] akatnamedeaster, Severus Snape, [G]
Snape as Jack Frost done superbly, even down to his subtle coloring and icicles hanging off his nose. Just brilliant.

Fic and Art:

  • The Deeper Symbolism Behind Golden Apples by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb, Harry/Draco, [R]
A delightful and exciting tale featuring a deliciously grown up Harry and Draco with nosy friends and an exciting, fast moving plot. The conversations in this are hilarious, as are the cast. Pansy is especially fabulous, and the descriptions are vivid and engaging.
As for the art, it's Harry just as he's dueling Voldemort, and it's beautifully powerful and moving.

Enjoy!
alisanne: (Default)
Hello, Flist, I come bearing more recs today.
This week they are from [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised, [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest, and [community profile] snape_potter's Secret Snarry Swap.
As always, these are things I especially enjoyed, YMMV. And please, if there are things you're loving I'd love to see some recs from you guys. :)

Fic:

  • Systemic Morality by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] zeitgeistic, Harry/Draco [NC-17]
This fic is hard to summarize, tbh. I left a bit of a flailing review, so I'll try to be more coherent here. This is an epic story bridging several years of Harry and Draco's on and off relationship. In between, life happens, people break up, careers change, godchildren grow up, and all through it one thing stays the same. Harry's feelings for Draco.
The supporting cast is superbly written, the world building details are rich and authentic. Check it our, it's fabulous.

  • Dark and Deep by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] kellychambliss, Severus/Minerva [PG-13]
Warm and cosy fic with everyone very much in character. Severus is prickly, Minerva is calm and serene, and they have a lovely arrangement. There are beautiful background details as well that make this piece well worth checking out. Go now.

  • Molly's Machinations by Anonymous [insanejournal.com profile] hdwriter, Severus/Harry [PG]
Sweet and warm holiday story, featuring a matchmaking Molly and the tenderest Snarry kiss I've seen in a while. Reading this one feels like sipping hot chocolate on a cold winter's day.

  • Time and Again by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] lauren3210, Harry/Draco [NC-17]
Aurors and Unspeakables unite in this Auror casefic which is an exciting and dramatic romp through various parts of the world. There's some brilliantly done magical theory, some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff, and lots of delicious UST that gets resolved (OH, does it get resolved, UNF) and along the way I completely fell for this Draco just as Harry did. Go, see what you think.

  • A Part of Yesterday by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith, Severus/Petunia, [NC-17]
A lovely, bittersweet story featuring young Petunia and Severus and a tale of forgiveness, reconciliation, and the Christmas spirit. This Petunia is sympathetic, this Severus sweetly shy under his bravado, and the ending is poignant and lovely, if a bit sad, everything the holidays are about.

Art:

  • A Night At The Leaky Cauldron by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] isinuyasha, Harry/Draco [G]
This glowing, gorgeous piece of art is well worth a look. The details are rich, the art style itself superb and all the other characters included are very much themselves.
And then there's Harry and Draco, leaning close together and just...Unf. I didn't know you could draw sexual tension until now. ;) Really brilliant.

  • The Best Gift of All by Anonymous [personal profile] shadowycat, Severus/Remus, [G]
Sweet art featuring two clearly in love people and including some lovely and detailed pencil work. The smiles on their faces and their clasped hands say it all. Beautiful work.

  • Rght, that's it for now. Go out and read, view, and rec! Let's give the gift of love to our fandom creators for the holidays!
alisanne: (Default)
So I'm following several fests this Fest Season and I come bearing Assorted Recs. If you get a chance, do check out as many of the fest offerings as you can. I know this is a busy time of year, but spare some love for your fellow creators, yes?

These are from [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised, [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest, [community profile] snape_potter's Snarry Swap, and [livejournal.com profile] hd_fanart's recently completed 2015 fest. Enjoy!

Fic:
  • The Longest Night of the Year by Anonymous [insanejournal.com profile] sweetsorcery, Severus/Harry [NC-17]
Lovely post-war getting together story with delicious UST and a fabulous payoff in the end. And you even get matchmaking Malfoys, which works surprisingly well. A truly lovely story.

  • A Convenient Impracticality by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] firethesound, Harry/Draco {NC-17]
Harry had a real, if non-public, sexual relationship with Draco, but it's off, or is it? In order to throw his friends off (and stop them from setting him up with unsuitable people) he pretends to date Draco, but this time with no sex. *shakes head* Don't try to understand, just go read because it's delightful and hilarious and will make you laugh and shake your head at the clueless boys.

  • The House-elves' Christmas Gift by Anonymous [personal profile] lilyseyes, Severus/Harry [NC-17]
Who can resist a Groundhog's Day Snarry adaptation? Especially when it's as well written and engaging as this one? Throw in yummy UST and some delicious sex and you get this gem of a story that everyone should check out.

  • Like A Star Across My Sky by Anonymous [livejournal.com profile] lumosed_quill and [livejournal.com profile] sdkshelly, Harry/Draco [NC-17]
The premise here is fun. Harry becomes Draco's landlord and Draco is faking being nice to see what Harry's nefarious plot could be for him. Of course, it's Draco and Harry, so nothing is as it seems and there's lots of snarkiness an some delightful arguing. The dialogue is a thing of joy and this is worth reading just for the scenes where Harry tries to teach Draco to ski, and for Millicent, who was superbly written. Go now!

Art:
  • Cats and Dogs by [personal profile] 8c, Harry/Draco and their pets [G]
Like cats and dogs, Harry and Draco can argue, but making up is fun to do. *g* Just adorable. How can yo go wrong with pets and snuggly H/D after all? Go, look, and say, "awww!".

  • Snowed in by Anonymous [personal profile] shadowycat, Severus/Minerva [G]
Ia there anything better in winter than being warm inside and watching it snow outside? I don't think so, and I think this picture depicts that beautifully. So serene and peaceful. The warmth of the season radiates here.

  • Salvation by [personal profile] citrus_lime, Harry/Draco [G]
Wings, tender looks, bare torsos and did I mention wings? Just gorgeous.

  • Boxers by [personal profile] naadi, Harry/Draco [PG]
Pirates vs Ninjas. Need I say more to get you to look? This hilarious comic is Naadi at her best. And I must say, Ninja!Harry is a sexy beast, and I'm pretty sure Pirate!Draco agrees. *g*

  • The Boy Who Scored by [personal profile] alby_mangroves, Harry/Draco [M]
What to say? This left me speechless for a while. It's Harry worshiping with Draco in the shower. Just go look, trust me, you'll be unable to speak for a while, too.

  • Flare by Anonymous [personal profile] 8c, Harry/Draco [G]
This deceptively simple art to me sums up Harry and Draco's relationship perfectly. The challenging stare they're exchanging, the set of their shoulders and the curves of their mouths. Harry's small smile, Draco's haughty stare...Worth a look or ten I'd say. Go see what you think.

  • And if you can't find something to like in that lot then there's no hope for you. :P
Do remember to leave the creators some love if you find something you enjoy, yeah? We all feel better when we get feedback. <3
alisanne: (Glee)
OMG, you guys, you have to go see!
There was a late gift posted at [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant's Kinky Kristmas and it's for MEEEEE! *twirls*
The lovely *cough* Mystery Artist has created Snarry Rimming art!
And if that's not enough to get you to go then I'm worried about you. ;)

Go look at Midnight Snack right now and tell me that's not yummilicious. I dare you. *g*

So the Snarry Road Not Taken Fest has ended, but I have only just caught up with reading, and I have a couple more fabulous stories to recommend to you.

Bound to You by [insanejournal.com profile] rycolfan (16,764, NC-17)

I love accidental bonding stories. Love. And this is a fabulous example of how to do it right. The pacing was perfect, with a lovely build up to a deliciously romantic finish, and of course the humor throughout was brilliantly achieved. If you want a sweet, yummy fic to sink your teeth into, this is it!

Burning Up a Sun (Just to Say Goodbye) by [livejournal.com profile] writcraft (2500, PG-13, *art is G rated)

For such a compact story, this feels epic. Of course, I was predisposed to like it because, well, Dr Who. *g* But even more than that, I love the subtle melding of the two universes. Severus is himself, yet believably the Doctor, and Harry is brilliant, exhibiting the traits of some of my favorite companions. The third character here, whose POV we see, is also well executed. And the art was well done too! A lovely way to end the fest.

Do go and check out the fest offerings, and, as always, if you see something you enjoy, do leave the creator some love. :)
alisanne: (Default)
In case you're not aware, the Snarry Road Not Taken Fest is currently posting, and week one has been completed. Before the next batch of nummy Snarry comes along, I thought I'd point you to what I especially enjoyed from the first week.

An Inadvertent Tie (5600, NC-17)

If you want a deliciously hot and sweet read, this is the story for you. Severus is trying to be noble and let Harry experience life, but Harry (smart man that he is) is having none of it. Although they do have a bit of angst to overcome first. Go roll around in the sweet and hot fluff!

Into a Bar (4432, PG)

You could see this as a Severus mentor fic, which is not usually my cuppa, but there's some ogling in it (lol), which made it more my speed. Either way you cut it, it's a lovely story. It's deceptively simple, but layered and beautifully descriptive, and the twist at the end was superbly revealed. If you can, I'd recommend reading it without looking at the warnings. Either way, though, it's fabulously done.

The Nameless Road (40,910, PG-13)

So I know the word count is intimidating, but trust me, this story is worth the time investment. It's a simple but profound premise. What if everyone thought Harry died as a baby and only discovered he might be alive when he came of age? How would Harry, as someone raised entirely Muggle, deal with what's expected of him? The author handles canon beautifully, the events flow by as if thing were meant to be this way, and everyone is recognizably themselves. And of course, the Snarry is luscious. A real joy to read.

As always, if you see something you enjoy, do leave the creator some love. :)
alisanne: (Default)
And this one is a doozy.

The Darklist (Based on The Blacklist).

Yes, it's long (83K), but this is totally worth it. First, it's based on one of my very favorite new TV shows, which went a long way to selling me on it, and then the way Draco is depicted...Guh! *fans self* It's really the perfect melding of the two worlds, and the characterizations are utterly fabulous, down to every OC. It gets violent at times (OMG, Blaise and Pansy! Eee!), but never more so than the source material, and it fits, is necessary even.
Really fabulous story. You should all go and read it right now, especially if you're a fan of the Blacklist.
alisanne: (Default)
So I have been enjoying the heck out of [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest, and thought I'd share some recs. As always, YMMV, and since I tend to read/look at things where I'm familiar with the source material, that has informed my choices of what to read, but I do think most will enjoy what I've linked here. Sadly I didn't participate this year, but this is one of my favorite H/D fests, so reccing is the least I can do!

All the Leaves Like Ashes (Based on 'The Day of the Triffids')
I didn't think anyone would pick this book as the basis for a H/D fic, but this was brilliantly executed. This book, which features walking, homicidal plants, was a staple of my childhood, and blends seamlessly into the WW. Of course Triffids are magical, duh! I like the realistic way the likely human reaction was handled, the characterizations were spot on, and the development of the H/D relationship was deftly done. Plus, it had a bit of a zombie feel to it, and I do love mah zombies. *g*

The Mummy (Based on 'The Mummy' movies).
OMG, I adore these movies and this story takes some of the best parts of the first film and smoothly transitions it into the WW. Draco is...OMG, snarky and at the same time sweet and sexy and competent and utterly brilliant. And Harry is, well, BAMF Auror!Harry.
Just a wonderfully fun and sexy adaptation.

Into Harry's head...And into Draco's Heart (based on 'Inception')
I wasn't sure this could be done. Inception is such a...complicated film, after all. But this story did it beautifully. Slipping from layer to deeper layer of the mind in a totally believable way. And Sirius! OMG, he was so creepy. *shivers* All the characters were well done, really, but the characters that were trying to defend each mind were all very scary. Really well done. And I have to say, I appreciated the non-ambiguous ending. The movie drove me crazy with that. *g*

Life is a Twice Written Scroll (based on 'The Butterfly Effect').
I may or may not have seen this movie (if it was a sci fi thing with horrible monsters, then I have, if not, I haven't) but that doesn't matter, because the story is fabulous. Centered around Draco, it focuses on what would happen if Draco found a way to change one thing in the past, and what the repercussions would be. I was on the edge of my seat (well, I was reading in bed, but still) waiting to see what would happen next. These are my favorite sorts of AUs, the ones where a single change makes all the difference.

And, as always, if you see something you enjoy, do leave the creator some love. :)

I've been meaning to post these for a while (well, not today's fic, that was just lovely and needed to be recced immediately, but the others? Yeah.)

Anyway, do remember the usual disclaimers (YMMV etc). And, of course, if you see something you enjoy, go leave some love! :)

Fools in Love (4445 words, NC-17) Williamson/Tonks, Moody/Tonks.

This Alastor! OMG, gruff and sexy and perfect. And the way Tonks sees him really made me take a second look at him. :) Also I loved the way the author cleverly had him focus on security in his everyday life, even down to what he does in his more intimate moments. *g* That is so totally him.
This Tonks was brilliant as well, with just the right amount of bravado and insecurity to make her seem genuine and sweet. A really enjoyable read.

we lay together on a cold hard floor (9000 words, R) Snape/Pettigrew.

First, why do more people not write this pairing? It makes so much sense. *shakes head*
This author is masterful in their characterizations. They captured Severus really well but, more importantly this Peter is perfect. Instead of the normal tendency to make him stupid, the author shows how clever he really is, and it made a lot more sense. Of COURSE he's not stupid, or inept. He'd have to be skilled. And I love that he has no problem not letting people know all he can do. Really brilliant writing, this. Check it out.

Cat Ladies
(2300 words, PG) Figg/Umbridge.

No, no, don't run away. This story will make you toss all your preconceptions about these characters out the window. The story structure was really inventive and engaging, and the use of second person POV brilliant. This turns everything we think we know about these two on its head and it's fabulous.

Working Things Out (7790 words, R) mystery pairing but includes Arthur Weasley, Minerva McGonagall, Poppy Pomfrey, Garrick Ollivander, and others.

Really delightful story. The romance in it is charmingly old fashioned yet sexy and sweet. Without giving the pairing away I'll say the author made them very well suited for each other. :)
And Garrick Ollivander's characterization was superb. Even down to his admiration of all power, even if it's a bit Dark. Really fun romp with some well done characterizations throughout.

Go! Read! Enjoy!

Okay so the fabulously talented [insanejournal.com profile] thusspakekate just wrote a fic that you all need to run and read right now.

A while back I wrote a story at DD called Private Practice, in which Polyjuiced Draco seduces Harry. Well, [insanejournal.com profile] thusspakekate took it to the next delicious level with her follow up How Much Do You Love me Right Now? in which Harry is still kinda clueless (but VERY HOT) and Pansy does Draco (and herself) a major favor.
The story is the perfect blend of clever Slytherin tactics, hotness and hilarity (Pansy's thoughts are priceless). Trust me, you'll enjoy it.
Go now and leave some love!
