Those cakes really are beautiful, and I'd love to taste one. But as a rule, I want my cakes slathered in buttercream rather than jello!

That gun video is hilarious, yet like so many satires, different from reality only in degree.

On the puppy question, I tend to side with PETA (for once). Animals are not toys, and those situations (strange people, noises, smells, and crowds) must be scary for the pups. But cute, definitely. (I'm always surprised when I see current Jerry Seinfield; in my head, he always looks like he did on TV 20+ years ago. Same thing happens when I see myself in a mirror!)

Not surprised about the racist tipping origins. So many economic policies are designed to maintain systemic racial, class, and gender inequality.

the 60s Poconos pics with their present-time ruins are haunting to me. I've seen similar images from the Catskills, home of many fine resort hotels in its day, and grew up outside detroit where we had ruins of amusement parks and huge hotels from the 1920s.

I think we are kidding ourselves if we don't see what a shiny veneer American "success" is. We may have had a few decades of prosperity but it's not guaranteed, and frankly much of the country has been sliding into poverty sine the 70s.

My grandpa sold his clarinet in 1932 and made a down payment on a new house. My parents bought a really nice suburban home for three years income. Three years of my income wouldn't get me a studio apartment in the town where I work.

Sorry for the downer... I love the fun and interesting things you post on Sundays. It just makes me sad.

Ohhhh!!!

I didn't know that was how tipping originated. In France waiters and waitresses are absolutely supposed to be paid minimum wage, and tipping is extra. Of course, I'd wager some people don't respect these rules, especially in the case of workers who are not French citizens and work "illegally" -- so you end up with racist discrimination nonetheless. And the laws that were passed (despite numerous protests) surrounding work from the past few years have really increased financial insecurity for a lot of workers by attacking the social protections ; lots of people suffer from it, and ofc a lot of politicians use racism as a diversion (it's better for them if people talk about immigration than about their indecent spending of public money on planes and false jobs for their family members!). Anyway, thanks for sharing this video.

These postcards pictures are utterly fascinating!

The UPS animals pics are adorable, omg, goats :')))))

I now really want to try making a cake with icing like that. It's so satisfying to look at *_*
